Daily#147: May — tl;dr

Filed under: Uncategorized — scrame @ 8:35 pm

Eh, just as an update: A couple bitter entries. Steroids. Also, some java rants, and bay to breakers. Search for those. Of course the iPad will become the premier games platform.. Side notes on protocol buffers. Marble Hornets. And a multipart discussion about database schema.

Pretty tech heavy, but april was centered almost completely around script frenzy, so there was a bit to catch up on. Still have a few things on the backlog for next month, though.

5 months. Haters, y’all know what to suck.

Daily #138: More python-protobuf

[for some reason this didn't publish on time.]

Did some work through making the messages work. I forgot that within the package that there is a second step you have to do to get bindings for the language you are working with. This is not the compilation step because that is already its own issue. For java, they have a maven project, but if you are awesome like me, you are better than that, so you can just actually manually compile and jar it up, along with a separate source jar. Just like tar, without, yknow, the gzip options. Spent some time trying to come up with a basic request handler that can handle binary on both sides. The server itself is a bit of a time sink, because I am ultimately just going to need the client.

Daily #135: Just copypasta

Filed under: Uncategorized — scrame @ 12:24 am

[was actually a separate, sarcastic post. might be worth a troll -- copypasta from that other place]

Yes. I can guarantee you, as a loyal apple consumer, will have the ultimate choice in games and — in fact — I predict that the iPad will become the ultimate gaming console! This is not just speculation, apple has _always_ been in the games market: from the typing tutor PAWS on the apple IIe all the way up to that puzzle game that they put on macs in 1993 thats probably still there.

“Ridiculous!” you say.

Apples stuff is just better. I mean, look at what happens when you try to offer a free award winning game on an established gaming platform to a mac user:

Thats right! It is confusing and painful! What the hell is wrong with people who don’t understand that! Why should you have to keep downloading stuff if you just want to use the internet?

Thats just silly, because we can just sync to iTunes and get whatever we need from the app store, right? I mean valve ported the source engine to the mac, so its just a matter of time before we can just go to the app store and get portal (maybe they can handle the tricky steam updates).

Then we’ll have a first-person puzzle shooter on the iPad, which will definitely be a disruptive technology, because we can undercut the hardware makers with our superior interface!

Naturally, nintendo should be worried, because microsoft still has their OS/Office suite for when they lose the gaming market, and sony has those sweet blue-ray discs. iPad cant quite def that hi.

Case in point: there are hundreds of thousands of applications available in the app store. What chance does nintendo have?

Like I said, the iPad will rule the games market.

Daily #127: More gource.

Filed under: Uncategorized — scrame @ 7:13 pm

Generating a somewhat longish movie of the projects in my svn repo. Initially I was going to just save the uncompressed ppm file, but it was many gigs large and still had some years to go on it.

Anyway, for various reasons, it needs to be run directly on the desktop (not in a shell or screen session), and then it renders and outputs the file, it didn’t seem like there was any way to surpress it.
So it has to be piped through ffmpeg, which has a lot of confusing options that seem to be platform dependent. Long story short: it works, but it will be rendering for a while. Ill get it up on youtube somewhere when its done.

Daily #37: Miscellania!

Filed under: Uncategorized — scrame @ 10:45 pm

* Straightened out WTGF administrative issues, and tried to contribute.
* Hashed out a basic card shuffler in trying to write a solitaire player. Haven’t figured out how to publish from private svn -> git-svn -> publish to github. ill work on that when its something worth looking at.
* Worked out some (bad) entries on a joke contest. Mostly not printable.

laterz.
